Yorkshire Futures - Contains Sub-Regional research documents.

National Statistics Links to statistics in the following categories: Agriculture; Fishing and Forestry; Commerce; Energy and Industry; Crime and Justice; Economy; Education and Training; Health and Care; Labour Market; Natural and Built Environment; Population and Migration; Public Sector and Other; Social and Welfare; Transport, Travel and Tourism.

Nomis - Provides access to a wide range of official labour market statistics free of charge. Downloads include national and local data from sources including the Labour Force Survey, New Earnings Survey, Annual Business Inquiry, Claimant Count and Jobcentre Vacancies.

Neighbourhood Statistics - A service providing socio-economic information down to ward level.

Progress in York and North Yorkshire - This document mirrors the Progress in the Region document produced by Yorkshire Futures, but provides data at a more local and detailed level. The document measures progress in York and North Yorkshire on a range of social, economical and environmental indicators outlined by the Region's Strategic Framework, Advancing Together. A full version of the document was produced in 2006 and will be re-produced every 3 years. On an annual basis in between the full update, Light Touch Reviews will be produced to provide an update on progress in the sub-region.

Rural Evidence Base for York and North Yorkshire - The first edition of this sub regional report was produced in 2007 in order to provide a robust and detailed analysis of the rural areas of York and North Yorkshire. The report focuses mainly on economic and social regeneration and social justice for all as these are the main delivery elements of the Rural and Social Community Programme (RSCP) and the Public Sector Agreement (PSA) 4 Programme.

Economic

The Impact of the Military Presence in North Yorkshire - In April 2009, Yorkshire Forward, in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Defence Estates, North Yorkshire County Council, Richmondshire District Council and the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit commissioned SQW Consulting to undertake research into the economic impact of current and future military activity in North Yorkshire. The study explored:

• the scale, nature, geography and impact of military activity in North Yorkshire

• the indirect impacts of military activity, including the integration and impact on local communities

and their regeneration, and housing markets in particular

• the impact of military presence on local labour markets, particularly looking at the integration of

military leavers

• the potential economic impacts of expansion at Catterick over the next 20 years.

Future York Group Report June 2007 - The Future York Group was set up to by City of York Council to look at the city's economic development strategy. The group has come up with recommendations as to how York might move forward and better prepare itself for meeting current and future competition. 

Social

Scarborough Employer Needs Survey - Scarborough Borough Council recently commissioned a comprehensive research project covering issues such as quantifying new job creation in Scarborough , establishing the recruitment and skills needs of local employers and the potential to improve the ability of people currently out of work to take advantage of the new employment opportunities.  The contact at the Council is Matt Parsons - matthew.parsons@scarborough.gov.uk

Department for Work and Pensions Research and Statistics - These sites contain vast amounts of information, sub-divided into families and children, working aged people and pensioners. 

Home Office - Research and statistical reports on a variety of Home Office subjects can be accessed.

Energy Statistics - This site is provided by the Department of Trade and Industry and provides information free of charge.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation - The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is one of the largest social policy research and development charities in the UK, this website provides a wide range of information. 

Index of Multiple Deprivation 2007  - This supersedes the previous 2004 Index.  The index contains information on areas such as crime and the living environment and the information is available in smaller areas called Super Output Areas (SOAs) rather than wards.

Learning and Skills Council - National Site

Learning and Skills Council - Yorkshire and the Humber Site

Department for Children, Schools and families and Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills - Contains a wide range of information covering education, training and life-long learning.

Higher Education Statistics Agency - Contains a wide range of publications, statistical tables and databases which are available to query.

National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) -  exists to encourage more and different adults to engage in learning of all kinds. We campaign for – and celebrate the achievements of – adult learners, young and old, and in all their diversity. NIACE is the largest organisation working to promote the interests of learners and potential learners in England and Wales. NIACE (The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education - England and Wales) is a non-governmental organisation working for more and different adult learners. In 2007, the Basic Skills Agency (BSA) merged with NIACE and will work in alliance with Tribal. The resulting Alliance for Lifelong Learning forms the country's leading concentration of expertise in literacy, language and numeracy across all age ranges.

e-Digest of Environmental Statistics - This is produced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Topics include: Air Quality; Water Quality; Radioactivity; Noise; Recycling; Land use and Wildlife, amongst others.
